CCMC Goes Cajun – The 2001 Crawdad Festival Run
By Lucky Dan, Road Captain
A lucky 13 – ten CCMC members and three guests – got
an early start down the Sacramento River to the annual Crawdad Festival
in Isleton on Sunday, June 17, 2001. The goal was a nice Father’s
Day bike ride, Cajun food, and fun. The crew was rewarded with all
that and more.
The run down the river in the morning was one of the
best in recent memory. Traffic was light, the fields and orchards
along the way were beautiful, and the river keep the temperature
just right for riding in light gear. Getting to Isleton ahead of
most of the traffic also meant finding parking was a snap.
What followed was a day of strolling down the main
street of Isleton that was lined with food and goods vendors of
all types. If you wanted a toe ring, a leather hat or a cigar it
was all there. The people-watching was great and Zydeco music poured
forth from the bandstands. Many visitors participated in the Fais-do-do
(street dance).
There were cold beverages, grilled Lockford sausage,
jambalaya, gumbo, sweet potato pie, garlic fries, tri-tip sandwiches,
calamari, and – of course – crawfish in abundance. Sitting on hay
bales in the shade, CCMC members ate well and tapped feet to the
upbeat music. The ride home was a little on the warm side but all
in all a great day to be on a motorcycle.
