Capital City Motorcycle Club Raises $3,600 for
Children’s Charities
Sacramento - Two charities that serve the
needs of community children will share a total of $3,600 in
donations raised by the Capital City Motorcycle Club during its
annual Rolling on the River charity poker run.
CCMC members will leave their clubhouse at 13th
and X Streets at about 10:00 a.m. on
Saturday, June 2 for the Northern California Shriners Hospital, 2425
Stockton Boulevard, and the Diogenes Youth Services,
9837 Folsom Boulevard, to present
the checks. Capital City riders will stop first at the Shriners
before going on to Diogenes facilities at approximately 11:30 a.m.
“We are privileged to be able to raise funds for two
very worthwhile organizations in the Shriners Hospital and Diogenes
Youth Services,” announced George Farrell, Capital City MC
president. “This is an honor shared with the many businesses that
supported our event and with the entire motorcycling community – in
Sacramento and beyond -- who attended our run. Donating to
charity was a prime motivator for most riders and we believe this
reflects well on the positive force bikers and motorcyclists
represent in society today,” he added.
Farrell said proceeds came from
riders’ entry fees, T-shirt sales and other events related to the
April 8 poker run. Many local businesses donated goods and
services that helped underwrite the event, with Sam’s Club providing
$1,000 in matching cash donations to split between the charities.
Club members also made cash and other contributions to the event.
Some 400 motorcyclists participated in the run down the Sacramento
River on April 8. Most riders came from Sacramento, the
surrounding foothill region, Central Valley, and the Bay Area.
Some rode in from as far away as Reno and Redding.
CCMC has a long-standing charter with the American
Motorcyclist Association and has some 120 Members. It is part of the
AMA District 36 Road Rider Division. In addition to holding an
annual charity poker run each spring, the club participates in
community events throughout the year such as those that benefit
armed service veterans, fallen law enforcement personnel and their
families, and the environment.
